Smriti Mandhana gives a fitting reply to Narendra Modi's praise on Twitter

Though team India’s fairytale journey at the Women’s World Cup 2017 could not end on a high, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the team to congratulate each member for their valiant efforts. India lost the final match at Lords against hosts England, but their remarkable performances throughout the tournament were hailed by dignitaries all over the world. The Indian Prime Minister took time out and felicitated every member of the team.

However, Modi was particularly impressed by promising young talent Smriti Mandhana, who was an integral part of the team in the heroic campaign. In his official Twitter account, Narendra Modi posted a picture of himself shaking hands with Mandhana at the felicitation ceremony. He captioned the picture with an equally good line praising the 21-year-old. Modi mentioned that he got the chance to meet an incredible talent in the name of Smriti and pointed out the fact that she crossed an injury hurdle to play the Women’s World cup. He also praised her knock against England in the opening match of the tournament where she scored 90 runs.

In her reply, Smriti thanked Narendra Modi for the good words and mentioned that it was a privilege for her to come face to face with the Prime Minister. Highlighting the useful and progressive work done by Modi for the country, Smriti termed Modi as an inspiration for the nation.

It was an amazing gesture by Narendra Modi to reward the Indian team despite their failure to lift the World Cup. The Indian team played at their best throughout the tournament and their gigantic effort deserves a lot of praise.
