India women’s sensational batter Smriti Mandhana was involved in a heated exchange of words in the ongoing Senior Women’s T20 League Trophy featuring Maharashtra and Rajasthan. Mandhana was run out at the non-striker’s end for backing up too much before the bowler completed her run up and recently, ICC had made it an official mode of dismissal. However, Mandhana wasn’t impressed with the manner she was dismissed and vented out her frustration with a few words against the opponents.
Mandhana has been a great success story since making her international debut at a very young age and has proved to be a vital cog in the opening position for India. The left-hander has played four Tests, 71 ODIs, and 84 T20Is so far accumulating more than 5000 runs across formats already. The 25-year-old recently was part of the Women’s World Cup campaign in New Zealand where India missed out on a spot in the semi-finals marginally.
Coming back to the mode of dismissal, Mandhana was batting on 28 when bowler KP Choudhary had effected the controversial way of run out. Maharashtra had been chasing just 103 and hence, the run-out did not have a big impact on the game as the side cruised to victory with eight wickets in hand. However, there have been instances in the past, when the mode of dismissal had changed the whole momentum upside down.

Well done, Rajasthan.
Mandhana wasn't happy, had some heated discussion with Rajasthan team, then with Jasia Akhter.

While earlier there were a lot of doubts over the run out at the non-striker’s end dismissal as ‘unfair play’, MCC had established a new law which would consider the mode of dismissal as run out.
“Law 41.16 – running out the non-striker – has been moved from Law 41 (Unfair Play) to Law 38 (Runout). The wording of the Law remains the same,” MCC said in a statement.
The mode of dismissal was highly talked about and discussed in recent times after Ravi Ashwin had ran out Jos Buttler at the non-striker’s end during IPL 2019 and it helped his side to win the game as well.
