'So Salty' - Fans question timing of Surrey's tweet acknowledging Ravi Ashwin's efforts with the club
Ashwin recently played a county game with Surrey.
India is currently up against England in a five-match Test series where the fourth match is in action. The series stands levelled at 1-1 and if there is one topic of discussion that is been gaining much attention amid the series, it is definitely Ravi Ashwin’s absence. It has to be noted that Ashwin hasn’t played even a single Test in this series so far.
In the same sequence of events, Surrey Cricket came up with a tweet acknowledging Ravi Ashwin’s effort with them. Ashwin played a county match for Surrey against Somerset in July and their tweet added that they forgot to take a picture of the spinner with his debut cap. The match where Ashwin marked his Surrey debut at The Kia Oval and took seven wickets in that fixture.
“We didn’t manage to get @ashwinravi99’s debut cap photo during his one-off Surrey appearance in July so we got it today instead! Ashwin took seven wickets in that @CountyChamp fixture against Somerset at The Kia Oval,” tweeted Surrey Cricket Club.
Though Surrey might have posted Ashwin’s pic in a genuine case, Twitter has taken it the other way round and has been questioning the time of the tweet. The post by Surrey is working as salt on India’s wounds as they are constantly moving up in the series without the services of their ace all-rounder.
India is constantly moving up with four pacers and a spinner combination. It was highly expected that India will pick Ashwin for their fourth Test in London but even that didn’t happen. Many experts around the world criticized Virat Kohli and Indian team management for their decision of excluding Ravi Ashwin. However, Kohli explained his decision by stating that he played Jadeja because England has four left-handers, and hence it will be a great contest for them. The pitch has started turning on the final day of the penultimate Test and visitors would have been missing Ashwin big time.
Talking of the match currently, England are currently up on the crease and have a target of 265 runs ahead of them. On the other hand, India need nine wickets to win the game at The Oval.
