England speedster Jofra Archer is set to make a return to action after being sidelined for over a year due to an elbow injury. The pacer has been named in the 14-player squad for England's forthcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa, scheduled to commence on January 27.

The return of the English pacer is a relief for the national team as well as the different franchises he will represent in T20 leagues - MI Cape Town in the SA20 and Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

After the end of a challenging year, the pacer took to Twitter to welcome 2023 as he eyes a return to the English side. “2022 Thank you, 2023 I’m ready,” Archer wrote on Twitter.

The news of Archer's return from injury came a day before the IPL 2023 auction. The pacer will feature for the Mumbai franchise in the forthcoming edition after being bought for INR 8 crore at the 2022 mega auction.

Mumbai endured a rough outing in the previous edition and dearly missed the services of Archer as they ended in the last place in the points table. In any case, the franchise will be looking forward to the exciting duo of Archer and Jasprit Bumrah taking the rival sides by storm.

Speaking about the South Africa series, the three 50-over matches will be played over six days with the first fixture to be held at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein. With the 2023 ODI World Cup on the horizon, the the series will be a preparation for the mega event in India. Furthermore, both teams will look to possibly experiment with a few players in order to build a balanced squad for the marquee event.
