45-year-old Virender Sehwag calls MS Dhoni 'aged', video goes viral
Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag labels MS Dhoni as "buzurg" amidst talks about the catch he hung on to in CSK's second home game of IPL 2024 against GT.
MS Dhoni can probably be counted as the face of the Chennai Super Kings, with him winning it all for the franchise by triumphing them to the IPL trophy as a leader a record five times, joint-most alongside the Mumbai Indians. Dhoni continues to feature in the cash-rich league in the 2024 edition, however, the captaincy baton has been passed onto the Maharashtra batter Ruturaj Gaikwad.
The Ranchi-born hasn't had an opportunity to bat thus far in the 17th edition, however, his antics as a wicketkeeper in the clash against Gujarat Titans made headlines. Notably, the keeper-batter dived to his right on the third ball of the eighth over during Gujarat's innings to send Vijay Shankar packing off a 2.27 metre full-stretched catch off Daryl Mitchell's bowling. Later in the game, pro batter Ajinkya Rahane also took an acrobatic take in the deep that sent David Miller back to the pavilion.
Taking note of the same, former cricketer Virender Sehwag recently appeared on Cricbuzz to laud the amazing efforts in the field put on display by CSK. Taking a cheeky dig on the former CSK skipper, Sehwag was seen calling Dhoni as 'buzurg' or aged. The video instantly went viral on social media, and the former Indian batter has been on the receiving end of mixed reactions to his remark against the 42-year-old.
“Catches win matches. Ajinkya Rahane picked a good catch, so did Rachin Ravindra. The Buzurg (aged) MS Dhoni also picked one,” Sehwag remarked.

Rahane is fitter than Dhoni: Sehwag
Former India all-rounder Rohan Gavaskar, who was also present as co-panellist alongside the ex-Delhi batter, was quick to react. The cricketer-turned-commentator questioned why the 45-year-old didn't label Rahane as an old player. Backing his claims, Sehwag went onto signify the age gap between the two CSK cricketers.
“Their age is not the same. There is a (age) difference and Rahane is also fitter than MS Dhoni. There is a big difference between a 35-year-old and a 42-year-old. MS is getting old now, there is no doubt about it,” Sehwag responded.

Meanwhile, CSK have won both their encounters thus far, and are leading the table with 4 points. A convincing win against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the tournament opener was followed by a clinical victory against the 2023 runners-up. Next up, Gaikwad & Co. will be facing the Delhi Capitals in an away game on Sunday, March 31, at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam.
