Quite contrary to the expectations, Sri Lanka lifted the Asia Cup 2022 trophy after defeating Pakistan by 23 runs in the finals on Sunday (September 11). Pakistan made a tremendous start to the game as the Lankan Lions lost their first five wickets inside 60 runs. However, Bhanuka Rajapaksa’s sensational hitting and Wanindu Hasaranga’s all-round brilliance meant Pakistan fall short of the title.
Following the conclusion of the game, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, who was in attendance at the Dubai International Stadium, interacted with journalists and even got engaged in a verbal altercation with one of them. Raja wasn’t amused when an Indian journalist asked him whether Pakistan fans are unhappy over their side’s defeat.
The PCB chief didn’t welcome the question as he replied saying, “Aap India se honge? Aap to bade khush honge? (Are you from India? You must be very happy then?)”. Moreover, Raja moved few steps ahead and can be seen snatching the journalist’s phone. Disappointed with Raja’s behaviour, the journalist took to Twitter and shared the video of the whole incident while expressing his displeasure.
क्या मेरा सवाल ग़लत था - क्या पाकिस्तान के फ़ैन नाखुश नहीं है - ये बहुत ग़लत था एक बोर्ड के चेयरमैन के रूप में - आपको मेरा फ़ोन नहीं छीनना चाहिये था - that’s not right Mr Chairman Taking my phone was not right @TheRealPCB @iramizraja #PAKvSL #SLvsPAK pic.twitter.com/tzio5cJvbG

Sri Lanka pip Pakistan to lift sixth Asia Cup title
Speaking of the contest, it was a real treat for the spectators as the Dasun Shanaka-led side showcased tremendous character. The Pakistan pacers breathed fire with the new ball as the Lankan side looked entirely down and out after their top-order got shattered. However, Rajapaksa had other ideas as he toiled Pakistan bowlers all over the park, recording a memorable half-century.
While the southpaw smashed an unbeaten 71 off 45 balls, Hasaranga complemented him well, scoring a 21-ball 36. Chasing 171, Babar Azam’s side lost wickets at regular intervals and never really looked in the hunt. Though opener Mohammad Rizwan scored a half-century, his 49-ball 55 meant the required run rate climbed up. At the end, the Men in Green were bundled out for 147, handing Sri Lanka a comprehensive triumph.
