Following Pakistan's humiliating Test series defeat in Australia, Adam Gilchrist had reportedly termed Pakistan as the "worst Asian team". However, the Australian great has denied the same and clarified that he has never made such a statement.

"I never said this. Absolutely fake, made up quotes. Pakistan were excellent at times this summer, against a World Champion Aust team and very nearly pinched a Test or two. #fakenews #ignore," Gilchrist wrote on X in response to a Pakistani supporter, who shared a post with Gilchrist's quote.

"Pakistan is the worst Asian team in Australian conditions, what they won here in the last 35 years," the post read. However, Gilchrist took notice of the false statement and claimed it to be a fake.

Pakistan lost three-match Test series against Australia

Pakistan made a dismal start in the three-match Test series, which was a part of the 2023–2025 ICC World Test Championship, losing the first Test in Perth by 360 runs. The Shan Masood-led side gave themselves a great opportunity to win the matches at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) but collapsed in both games and eventually suffered a 3-0 cleansweep.

The visiting side had taken a lead in the first innings of the SCG Test, which was David Warner's farewell game. However, they fell short in the second innings, allowing Australia to win the game by eight wickets. Pakistan finished the series without earning any World Test Championship points while the hosts received 12.

The defeat at SCG marked Pakistan's 17th Test match in a row on Australian soil. Following the Test series defeat, Pakistan are now up against Kane Willaimson-led New Zealand in an away five-match T20I series.
