The ongoing edition of Asia Cup 2023 has been hit with many rain interruptions. The tournament was initially scheduled to be hosted exclusively in Pakistan. However, after India were unwilling to make the trip to their neighbouring country to play in the prestigious tournament, it was decided that the Asia Cup would be co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka, with India playing their matches in the island nation.

However, fans were concerned that rain may play a major part in the matches in Sri Lanka. Their nightmares turned out to be true as the second match that Sri Lanka hosted in Kandy between India and Pakistan ended in no-result due to incessant rains. When the action shifted to Colombo, no match was abandoned but almost all of them were hit by frequent rain interruptions.

The ground staff had to be on their toes at all time and they were up to the task. From pulling out the heavy covers onto the field in no time to using innovative techniques to dry the pitch, their heroic efforts ensured that fans wouldn't be deprived of seeing their favourite stars in action. The curators also did a fine job as the pitches had enough in them for bowlers as well as batters.

Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Jay Shah acknowledged the efforts of the curators and groundsmen in Kandy and Colombo, as he referred to them as the 'Unsung Heroes of Cricket'. Shah announced that ACC and SLC have decided that the curators and groundsmen will be rewarded for their commendable work with 'a well-deserved prize money of USD 50,000, i.e INR 41.5 Lakh, 1.6 Cr Sri Lankan rupee.
