After a disappointing loss in the one-off test against Ireland, the Afghanistan cricket team bounced back brilliantly, clinching the ODI series 2-0. However, a touching moment occurred during the 3rd ODI on Tuesday (March 12) in Sharjah.

As the holy month of Ramadan is ongoing, Afghan players took a break mid-game to break their fast and offer prayers on the field.

For Muslims worldwide, Ramadan is a sacred period of fasting, spiritual reflection, and increased devotion. Adults refrain from eating and drinking from dawn until dusk during this ninth month of the Islamic calendar. This year, Ramadan began on Tuesday, March 12.

Mohammad Nabi and Hashmatullah Shahidi break Ramadan fast

As play was underway, a video captured Mohammad Nabi and Hashmatullah Shahidi taking a break and observing their religious duties. The two Afghanistan stars were seen offering prayers and breaking their fast on the field, while their teammates did the same in the dressing room.

Putting aside the brief interlude, Afghanistan put up an excellent all-round performance to defeat Ireland by a massive 117 runs and claim the ODI series 2-0. After posting 236/9 from their 50 overs, thanks largely to half-centuries by Shahidi (69) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (51), the Afghan bowlers skittled out Ireland for just 119. Nabi led the way with a five-wicket haul.

In response, Ireland faltered under pressure, succumbing to a batting collapse and ultimately being bowled out for 119 runs. Mohammad Nabi's exceptional bowling performance, backed by Nangeyalia Kharote's contributions, ensured Afghanistan's victory and sealed the series 2-0 in their favour.

After the ODI series, all eyes are on the three-match T20I series starting from Friday, March 15, in Sharjah. Both teams will be looking to clinch the series.
