Ajinkya Rahane returns as BCCI announces squad for World Test Championship final 2023
Ajinkya Rahane makes his way into the Test squad to face Australia in the WTC final.
With the World Test Championship final scheduled to be played from June 7, 2023, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Indian squad that will be travelling to London to face Australia in the summit clash.
Rohit Sharma will be leading the side, with the likes of Shubman Gill, KS Bharat, and Jaydev Unadkat making their way into the team as well. After defeating Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023, India would hope for a similar outcome against the Kangaroos. One of the most notable inclusions in the side is Ajinkya Rahane.
Rahane has earned a place in the squad due to his sensational showings in the IPL 2023 and the recently culminated Ranji Trophy season.
Representing Chennai Super Kings in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, the 34-year-old has been in sensational form. With 209 runs in five IPL games so far, Rahane has been one of the most important players for the four-time champions.
Furthermore, he was fabulous for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy in 2022–23 as well. Amassing 634 runs for the side and hitting two centuries, including a double hundred, in seven matches. On the back of such imperious form, Rahane was expected to be named in the India squad for the WTC final.
He would be keen on strengthening the Indian middle order alongside KL Rahul as the side will be missing the services of Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant for the WTC final. It could be interesting to see how Rahane converts his domestic form on the biggest stage when the Rohit Sharma-led side squares off against Australia.
