'All-format great' - Aussie stars open up on what they think about Virat Kohli ahead of WTC final dogfight
The World Test Championship final will take place from June 7 to 11 at The Oval in London.
Australian players shared their thoughts on star India batter Virat Kohli ahead of the much-awaited World Test Championship (WTC) final. The one-off Test between the top two Test sides, India and Australia, will take place from June 7 to 11 at The Oval in London.
Kohli is one of the greatest batters India have ever produced. The 34-year-old is the top Indian active player in the longest format of the game. He amassed 8416 runs at an average of 48.93 and a strike rate of 55.32, with seven double centuries, 28 hundreds, and 28 fifties.
In a video shared by the International Cricket Council (ICC) ahead of the marquee event, Australian players, including Cameron Green, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Pat Cummins, and Mitchell Starc, attempted to describe the former India skipper. Young all-rounder Green labelled Kohli "The Man of India", while Smith described him as a "superstar" who enjoys playing against Australia.
“The man of India, that he has been for quite a while, and he’s been leading the team for the last decade basically and being so successful," said Green.
“He’s been a superstar for a long time, loves playing against Australia, often scores runs against us, but hopefully we can keep him quiet this week," Smith said.
David Warner, the legendary Australian opener who is looking to call time on his Test career soon, lauded Kohli for his world-famous cover drive. Meanwhile, Usman Khawaja described Kohli as "competitive," others, including Labuschagne, Starc, and Cummins, also lauded him.
"Unbelievable cover drive," Warner said.
"One of the greats. I mean, all-format great. Hopefully, not so great this week," No. 1 Test batter Labushchagne said.
"Very skillful. Have dominated for a long time. Backbone of the middle-order," Starc added.
"Good player. Always seems up for a fight," skipper Cummins concluded.
