India captain Rohit Sharma on Saturday, November 16, took to Instagram to announce the birth of his son. The birth took place on November 15 in a local hospital, and it was for the same reason, the cricketer hadn’t travelled to Australia with the rest of the squad for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, slated to begin on November 22.

Notably, Rohit shared a poster similar to that of the famous sitcom ‘Friends’ and titled it ‘the one where we are four’. He received many congratulatory comments, including one from famous Bollywood actor and producer Anushka Sharma, who’s also the wife of Virat Kohli. She commented with three heart emojis, as a way to congratulate Rohit and his wife, Ritika Sajdeh. Anushka's comment has been flooded with likes and heartfelt reactions from fans on social media.

Meanwhile, the Indian captain is very likely to miss the first Test against Australia in Perth. Much before the squad was announced, Rohit conveyed his unavailability to BCCI but later the 37-year-old added that he would take a call later. With one week remaining since the birth of his child, it was expected for the cricketer to travel to Australia but as per fresh reports, that is unlikely to happen.

In his absence, Jasprit Bumrah is expected to lead the team in the first Test in Perth. The team meanwhile had multiple practice sessions in Australia and during which, star batter KL Rahul initially picked up a minor injury but returned to training on November 17. On the other hand, Shubman Gill has fractured one of his fingers in his right hand and is expected to miss the Test.

In his absence, Devdutt Padikkal has been asked to stay back with the Indian team. He has been in good touch in the practice sessions but him featuring in the first Test looks unlikely, especially with Rahul and Easwaran in the mix.
