Poor showing by Pakistan in World Cup
Coming to the marquee event, the Men in Green, led by Babar Azam, entered the competition with high hopes, but unfortunately, their campaign took a downward turn after a crucial defeat against India. Despite managing four wins in the league stage, the team found themselves on the sidelines, failing to qualify for the semi-finals for the umpteenth time since their last appearance in 2011.
The disappointment was quite evident as Pakistan faced England on November 11. Their struggles were evident as they not only failed to chase the target of 338 but also couldn't bat for the full 50 overs, getting bowled out for 244.
However, amidst the poor performance, there's good news for the Men in Green. Despite the forgettable run, they are set to pocket a substantial sum of money. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a payout of $40,000 for each win in the group stage, with an additional $100,000 for teams exiting in the league stage.
Pakistan's tally of four wins translates into a handsome $160,000, and despite the early exit, they will receive an additional $100,000. The financial boost, totalling $260,000 or a whopping 73,341,580 Pakistani rupees, serves as a consolation for a team that fell short of expectations on the field.
As the focus shifts to the semi-finals and the ultimate showdown in Ahmedabad on November 19, India, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand are gearing up for the next phase.
