It is no secret that the high-voltage action between the arch-rivals garners massive attention from fans and members of the cricketing fraternity. However, it was on Monday, September 11, that the digital broadcasting platform – ‘Disney+ Hotstar’ garnered record viewership during the clash, breaking all previous records for an India match.
“Today’s #INDvsPAK has clocked 2.8 Crore concurrent users on @DisneyPlusHS - the highest for any India match in the history of digital. The previous best was #INDvsNZ 2019 @cricketworldcup semi final with 2.52 Crore concurrent users 🇮🇳 #AsiaCup @StarSportsIndia,” Jay Shah shared on his ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) handle.
Speaking about the match, it was the Indian top order that helped set the tone of the contest with their impressive knocks. Rohit and Shubman Gill scored 56 and 58 runs, respectively, to lay a solid foundation in the innings.
However, it was Virat Kohli and KL Rahul’s unbroken 233-run stand which propelled the Men in Blue to 356/2 at the end of 50 overs. Numerous records tumbled as Kohli became the fastest to reach 13,000 ODI runs, quickest to 47th ODI ton and 77th century overall, and also achieved the distinction of scoring joint-most centuries in a winning cause for India, among others.
