Pakistan and Bangladesh squared off in the opening game of the Super Fours stage of Asia Cup 2023 in Lahore on Wednesday, September 6. Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and elected to bat first on the batting-friendly track.

Shaheen Afridi bowled a brilliant first over as Bangladesh couldn't get off the mark. Naseem Shah dismissed last game's centurion Mehidy Hasan Miraz off his first delivery in the second over of the match. Litton Das, who returned to the side after recovering from illness, perished for 16. Towhid Hridoy and Mohammad Naim also didn't last long as the Pakistan pacers wreaked havoc.

The experienced pair of Shakib and Mushfiqur Rahim added 100 runs but just when the Bangla Tigers were looking to get into a position of dominance, they lost their skipper. After this huge breakthrough, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah made light work of Bangladesh's lower order as their pace was too hot to handle. The former finished with figures of 4/19 while Naseem picked up a three-wicket haul.

Chasing a paltry target of 194, Pakistan lost Fakhar Zaman for 20 with the team's score at 35 in 9.1 overs. Captain Babar Azam came out to the middle and looked solid before being dismissed by Taskin Ahmed. Bangladesh looked demoralised as some easy runs were given away by fielding errors. Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan struck half-centuries and their 85-run partnership knocked the wind out of the sails of Bangladesh.

After the Southpaw departed for 78 off 84 balls, Rizwan (63 off 79 balls) took the 'Men in Green' over the line alongside Salman Ali Agha (12* off 21 balls) with 63 balls and seven wickets left. This thumping win will surely give Pakistan a lot of confidence before their high-voltage clash against India on Sunday, September 10.
