Asia Cup 2023: Virat Kohli’s unique shot against Faheem Ashraf stuns commentators

The Super Four stage clash of the Asia Cup 2023 between India and Pakistan had many memorable moments. From rain playing spoilsport to Virat Kohli and KL Rahul’s sensational centuries, the game was full of high-octane moments that kept the fans engaged right till the very end.

However, despite the brilliant centuries and Kuldeep Yadav’s sensational spell in the second innings, one of the highlights of the game was a unique shot by ace Indian batter Virat Kohli.

On the fifth ball of the 50th over of the first innings, Kohli stunned the commentators as he played a shot that he had never played before. Coming into a position to play a ramp shot, Kohli shuffled on the crease and opened the face of the bat against Faheem Ashraf’s attempted yorker wide outside the off stump.

As the ball ran away for four, the commentators could not believe their eyes. The on-air commentators, Waqar Younis and Sanjay Manjrekar, were baffled by Kohli’s brilliance, as Younis said, "Never seen Virat play a shot like this."

The game between India and Pakistan had numerous disruptions, with rain playing spoilsport throughout several stages of the match, the clash had to be moved into the reserve day. The day began with Virat Kohli and KL Rahul on strike, with Pakistan looking for a breakthrough. 

However, it was all useless as both Kohli and Rahul put forth sensational performances. Virat Kohli was named Player of the Match for his excellent knock of 122* runs in 94 deliveries. Furthermore, KL Rahul added the cherry on top by scoring 111* runs in 106 balls. Both batters’ brilliant performances helped India post 356 runs on the board in the first innings. 

Defending the target, the Rohit Sharma-led side displayed resilience as excellent spells by Kuldeep Yadav, Shardul Thakur, and Hardik Pandya helped them win the game.
