Former India cricketer Deep Dasgupta has opened up on Virat Kohli’s technical problems which have caused issues for him in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The 47-year-old mentioned that Kohli will have to forget his favourite shot, the cover drive, to tackle his weakness in the channel outside the off stump, which has haunted him for a long time.

The third Test in Brisbane has been disastrous for the Indian team as well as Kohli. The 36-year-old started the series with a brilliant century in Perth but everything has gone downhill since then. His last three scores have been 7, 11, and 3, with the Australian bowlers consistently exploiting his weakness outside off stump. Multiple experts have weighed in on the issue and the most recent one to join the list is former wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta.

"As a player of your stature, it's important to sometimes play within your boundaries. Everyone knows what you’re capable of—you’ve already proven your greatness over the last 10-15 years. There’s nothing left to prove. But occasionally, you need to focus on staying within your limits. Once you find your rhythm, you can gradually expand those limits. For the first 20 balls, forget about your favourite shot.” Dasgupta told Star Sports.

Despite the century in Perth, Kohli’s performance in the series so far has become a cause of concern for the Indian team. Overall, he has scored 126 runs in the five innings in this series and is averaging only 31.50. His Test average has also dropped to 47.49 after a string of low scores.
