AUS vs IND 2024: Irfan Pathan comes up with cheeky dig at Perth Pitch, post goes viral

Former Indian cricket all-rounder Irfan Pathan voiced his opinion on the rapid change in the Perth pitch. Notably, hosts Australia are crossing swords with the visitors India in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. During the first Test being played in Perth, across the three innings conducted so far, the nature of the pitch changed just like the weather plays possums.

However, the former India all rounder Irfan Pathan, who is known for his witty side and responses, pointed out how the pitch underwent a remarkable transformation from day one to day two of the series opener. Bringing out his surprising side, he compared the pitch to his better half. 

"Itna jaldi to meri wife ka mood bhi change nahi hota jitni jaldi ye pitch badli hai (My wife's mood does not change this fast compared to Perth's surface)," Pathan wrote on his 'X' handle.

The pitch's character has had a major impact on the game. The first day saw 17 wickets fall, with both teams' pace attacks making the most of the favourable conditions. Team India, batting first, struggled against the Australian pacers and were bundled out for 150, with their top order of Yashasvi Jaiswal Devdutt Padikkal, and Virat Kohli falling early. On the same day, India dismantled the Australian batting and restricted them to 67/7 after the first day of play.

However, on day two, India's captain Jasprit Bumrah bowled a magnificent spell of fast bowling, claiming 5/30 to restrict Australia to just 104 runs and making sure the team had a lead of 46 runs. His crucial wickets included the prized scalps of Steve Smith, Usman Khawaja, Nathan McSweeney, Alex Carrey, and Pat Cummins.

The changing nature of the pitch became even more evident when India came out to bat in their second innings. The opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul achieved a historic feat by becoming the first Indian opening pair in 20 years to score a century partnership in Australia. By stumps on day two, they had guided India to the driving seat with the scorecard reading 172/0, extending their lead to 218 runs.
