AUS vs PAK: Play delayed at MCG as third umpire gets stuck in elevator
Richard Illingworth was not seen in his seat as the cameras were panned towards him.
In a bizarre moment at the ongoing second Test between Australia and Pakistan, there was a delay in play on Day 3 of the clash as the umpire Richard Illingworth got stuck in a lift. Cricket has seen many delays over the years, from rain playing spoilsport to technical errors, however, the match official getting stuck in a lift was something that was never witnessed before.
The play was delayed for more than five minutes after lunch on Day 3 as third umpire Richard Illingworth was stuck in the lift at the MCG. Illingworth was not in his seat at the MCG as the broadcasters panned the cameras toward his seat.
Cricket is the No. 1 spot that has stoppages because of bizarre reasons: Michael Vaughan
The moment of the third umpire getting stuck in the lift attracted some banter from the commentary box. Former England skipper Michael Vaughan opined that cricket is the best sport to get stoppages due to bizarre reasons. Furthermore, Wasim Akram, who was part of the same commentary team, asked if there was any other sport having stoppages like this.
"Cricket is the No. 1 spot that has stoppages because of bizarre reasons," Michael Vaughan said.
"We have got a stoppage in play because the third umpire is stuck in a lift. We had a bit of delay before because of a little bit of drizzle. Now everything is ready go, but we have an umpire stuck in the lift. Do you any other sport that has so many different delays for so many different reasons?” Wasim Akram added.
