A dramatic night in Sharjah ended with the Pakistan cricket team doing what they always do: putting their fans through a rollercoaster ride. While the contest in itself was exhilarating, tensions flared between players from both sides as Pakistan's Asif Ali and Afghanistan's Fareed Ahmed almost came to blows in a dramatic penultimate over. The hard-hitting Pakistani batter has been the subject of criticism for his unsavory behavior.

Pakistan were the favorites heading into the clash against Afghanistan and were in the driver's seat after a terrific bowling performance in the first innings. But Pakistan's chase was off to a rocky start, as skipper Babar Azam, who lost his no.1 spot in the ICC T20I rankings to his opening partner Mohammad Rizwan, succumbed to a golden duck.

But it was the departure of the in-form Rizwan, that made the Afghani bowlers believe in their defense of a modest total. Shadab Khan's promotion worked wonders for the team, but his departure opened the floodgates as Pakistan lost six wickets for just 32 runs. Asif Ali, who was the hero of the previous encounter, threatened to take the game away, and it was his dismissal that instigated a moment of madness in the middle.

Asif Ali raised his bat on Fareed

Fareed Ahmed was pumped after dismissing the Pakistani batter and celebrated in the face of Asif, who did not take kindly to the Afghan's antics and put his bat near the bowler's face before others intervened to separate the pair. Asif's dismissal tilted the match in Afghanistan's favor, or so it seemed, before the young Naseem Shah produced two magnificent blows to put an end to the dramatic encounter.

The Pakistani batter has been criticized by several notable names, including the former chief executive of the ACB, who took to Twitter and wrote, “This is stupidity at the extreme level by Asif Ali and should be banned from the rest of the tournament, any bowler has the right to celebrate but being physical is not acceptable at all.”
