BAN vs IND: Rishabh Pant grabs stunning catch to end Najmul Hossain Shanto's resistance
Shanto's dismissal brought an end to a terrific opening stand of 124 runs, chasing a record 513 runs at the venue.
The Indian team finally managed to end the resistance of the Bangladeshi opening pair in the second innings, thanks to a spectacular grab by Rishabh Pant. The wicketkeeper-batter showed tremendous reflexes, snaffling a tough chance after Virat Kohli had shelled the ball at first slip to dismiss the defiant Najmul Hossain Shanto.
Following India's breathtaking assault on the third day, the home side made a steady start on the fourth day. Although there were a few nervy moments against the spinners, the Bangladeshi opening pair remained largely untroubled at the crease. Najmul Hossain Shanto and Zakir Hasan got to their respective half-centuries in the fourth innings and started turning the tide for the hosts.
However, Najmul Hossain Shanto provided the Indian bowlers with a much-needed wicket after 46 overs of fruitless toil when he edged a ball to the first slip. Virat Kohli, who was stationed there, made a meal of a regulation catch, but Rishabh Pant was alert to the deflection and displayed great athleticism to grab a stunning catch.
Litton Das falls before tea
Shanto's dismissal brought an end to a terrific opening stand of 124 runs, chasing a record 513 runs at the venue. His wicket was followed by the departure of Yasir Ali, who was cleaned by Axar Patel to the joy of the Indian contingent present at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
Despite those two quick blows, the home side are still batting with great confidence, especially the debutant Zakir Hasan, who is marching towards his maiden century in the longest format of the game. White-ball skipper Litton Das survived a few near escapes before eventually falling to Kuldeep Yadav before Tea on Day four of the series opener in Chattogram.
