When Rohit Sharma was named the full-time captain of India earlier this year, many experts had argued that it would be a daunting task for him to maintain his fitness standards across formats and he can no longer afford to miss anymore series from here on due to fitness problems.

However, Rohit has suffered an injury during the second One Day International between Bangladesh and India at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday, December 7. Meanwhile, the injury seems to be a bit serious that forced him to leave the field immediately for treatment.

Injury concerns for Rohit Sharma

When Rohit was leaving the field for treatment, the commentators assumed on air that the Indian captain might have split his webbing. The ‘Hitman’ suffered this injury in the second over of the first innings after the hosts elected to bat first on winning the toss.

On the fourth delivery, pacer Mohammed Siraj had bowled one outside off stump to opener Anamul Haque. Anamul did not seemingly look convinced to even attempt it, but changed his mind at the last moment and played a lazy shot just hanging his bat.

The ball took the outside edge of his bat and flew low to Rohit Sharma who had positioned himself at the second slip. Nonetheless, he failed to hold on to the catch. Unfortunately for both Sharma and India, he ended up hurting himself badly as his fingers were bleeding profusely leaving him with no choice other than being off the field for medical attention. Rajat Patidar who is the substitute for this match was then asked to field for Rohit.

The extent of Rohit Sharma’s injury is unknown as of now and it remains to be seen whether he will be able to take the field later on and bat in the second innings. India must win this match in order to stay alive in the three-match series.
