After a long wait of 1214 days, Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli finally put an end to his ODI century drought by notching up his 72nd international ton against Bangladesh. In the third ODI between the two sides, Kohli scored a brilliant 91-ball 113 to bring up his 44th ODI ton after a gap of more than three years.

Kohli’s last ODI ton came back in August 2019, when India faced West Indies at the Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain. He then scored two Test centuries later that year, one in October 2019 against South Africa and one against Bangladesh in India, which was also his 70th international ton. After more than two and a half years, Kohli ended the dry spell and brought up his 71st ton earlier this year during the Asia Cup 2022.

Though the gap between his 70th and the 71st was long, it did not take him much time to reach the 72nd. But the gap between his last two ODI tons was surely a huge one. After India was put to bat first, Kohli and Ishan Kishan batted brilliantly to take India to a huge score of 409/8 in 50 overs. Ishan Kishan’s historic double century was the highlight of the innings, but Kohli grabbed eyeballs for what he said after getting to the three-figure mark.

India posted a massive target of 410 runs

In a video shared by the Sony Sports Network, Kohli could be seen saying “three fu***ng years boys” after he removed his helmet to celebrate the ton. The 34-year-old hit a six to achieve the feat and went on to hit 113 runs off 91 deliveries before being dismissed by Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. Kohli’s knock included 11 fours and two sixes.

After Kohli and Kishan’s dismissal, Washington Sundar’s cameo of a 27-ball 37 powered India to cross the 400-run mark on the scoreboard as the Men in Blue finished their 50-over quota scoring 409/8.
