After winning the toss, New Zealand opted to bat first. However, their decision backfired as Mustafizur Rahman dismissed opener Will Young for an eight-ball duck in the third over. Chad Bowes then joined opener Finn Allen hoping to create a significant partnership.
However, Rahman struck again in the seventh over and dismissed Allen for a paltry score of 12 runs while Khaled Ahmed sent Bowes back to the pavilion in the eighth over. Meanwhile, Henry Nicholls and Tom Blundell managed to steady New Zealand's innings.
Nicholls scored 49 off 61 deliveries while the wicketkeeper-batter struck 68 off 66 balls. Later, Ish Sodhi scored a 39-ball 35, which included three maximums.
Mahedi Hasan was the standout bowler for Bangladesh, as he finished with figures of 3/45. Apart from Hasan, Khaled Ahmed also claimed a three-wicket haul. Mustafizur Rahman picked up two wickets while Hasan Mahmud and Nasum Ahmed took one wicket each.
