Left-arm Indian bowler Barinder Sran has declared his retirement from both international and domestic cricket at the age of 31. The Punjab-born cricketer had quite a journey from village cricket to representing India on international level.

Sran's began unconventionally when he responded to a Kings XI Punjab advertisement calling for young talent. Despite not securing an IPL contract initially, he played tennis ball cricket in his village and went on to become one of Punjab's top uncapped cricketers. His hard work paid off when Rajasthan Royals picked him up in the 2015 IPL auction.

"As I officially hang up my cricket boots, I look back at my journey with a heart full of gratitude. Cricket has gifted me innumerable and incredible experiences. Fast bowling soon became my lucky charm and opened doors to represent prestigious IPL franchises, ultimately culminating in the highest honor of representing India in 2016," Sran wrote on his Instagram handle.

In 2016, the 31-year-old donned the Indian blue, making his ODI debut under MS Dhoni's captaincy in Perth. He was just eight List-A matches old when he represented the nation. He went on to represent India in six ODIs and two T20Is, with his most memorable performance coming in Harare during a T20I against Zimbabwe, where he claimed four 4 wickets for just 10 runs, earning him the Player of the Match award.

"Even though my international career was brief, the memories created will be forever cherished. I am eternally grateful to the almighty for getting me the right coaches and management, who have supported me throughout my journey," he added.
