Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag is widely acclaimed as one of the most brutal opening batters the game has ever seen. His dynamic and ultra-aggressive style of batting captivated fans throughout his illustrious career.
It is noteworthy that the 44-year-old became the first Indian batter to reach a triple century, marking an important milestone in Test cricket. Sehwag accomplished this astonishing record in 2004 at the Multan International Cricket Stadium.
During a match against Pakistan, he showed off his batting prowess by scoring an astounding 309 runs. Notably, he remains the only Indian player to have accomplished this incredible feat twice in the longest format of the game.
Recently, on his Instagram handle, the former Indian opener shared a picture of the cricket bats that he used to play some of his most memorable innings. Alongside the image, Sehwag expressed his regret for misplacing the bat that he used to score 293 runs against Sri Lanka in 2009 at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium.
In his post's caption, he humorously wrote, "Bat mein hai dum - 309, 319, 219, 119, 254. Pyaare saathi. Lost 293 waala," implying the missing bat held a special place in his heart.
Sehwag narrowly missed the opportunity to become the first Indian cricketer to achieve three triple centuries. His dreams were shattered when he fell just seven runs short of the milestone, scoring 293 against Sri Lanka in 2009.
Later, during an appearance on 'The Ranveer Show,' the cricketing legend disclosed a secret, revealing that he had made a pact with Sachin Tendulkar. Sehwag had promised Tendulkar that if he reached a triple century, Tendulkar would comply with any request he made. However, the true reason behind Sehwag's burning desire to achieve this goal remains a secret he intends to carry to his grave.
Sehwag's second triple hundred came against South Africa in Chennai in 2008, where he played a phenomenal innings, scoring a staggering 319 runs. To this day, it stands as the highest individual score by an Indian batter in Test cricket, a testament to Sehwag's exceptional talent and unmatched contribution to the game.
