In a remarkable display of cricketing foresight, the legendary Ricky Ponting once again showcased his astute understanding of the game during a scintillating Big Bash League (BBL) clash between Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars. The former Australia captain left netizens in awe as he accurately predicted the dismissal of all-rounder Nikhil Chaudhary off Nathan Coulter-Nile.

The pivotal moment unfolded in the 18th over, just before Coulter-Nile initiated his run-up for the third delivery. Ponting, gracing the airwaves, suggested that the bowler could secure the wicket by pulling back the length and delivering a slower ball. Astonishingly, Coulter-Nile executed his advice to perfection, leading to the anticipated wicket and leaving fans and experts alike marvelling at his cricketing acumen.

Here's a glimpse of Ponting's commentary:

The Hobart Hurricanes set a competitive target, posting 187/8 in their allotted 20 overs after being put into bat. Ben McDermott emerged as the top scorer for the Hurricanes, contributing a valuable half-century. However, the Stars' Dan Lawrence emerged as the standout bowler, claiming an impressive four-wicket haul.

Ricky Ponting under the radar for prioritising IPL over commentary duties

Ricky Ponting, in a brief stint with Channel 7 during the Pakistan Test, curtailed his commentary duties after just three days, notably absent on the final day when Australia clinched victory. The two-time World Cup-winning captain's departure was attributed to his commitment as an IPL coach, with the IPL auction scheduled for December 19.

Similarly, Sydney Thunder's BBL coach, Trevor Bayliss, raised eyebrows for pulling out from coaching duties on Tuesday for the IPL auction. Australian media questioned Bayliss's move, contrasting it with Ponting's more discreet transition from commentary to IPL coaching responsibilities.

“My first impression was it was certainly no surprise. There was always going to be an additional window which is going to create havoc on bilateral cricket and the rest of the cricketing community so it’s a real challenge. And it’s not something I think you can just simply take a short-term view on. I genuinely think we need to be conscious of ensuring that all of international cricket needs to continue playing meaningful cricket,” Australian Cricketers’ Association chief executive, Todd Greenberg had said as quoted by The Indian Express.
