Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag has openly invited BCCI and its secretary Jay Shah to change the Indian Cricket Team’s name to Bharat in the upcoming ODI World Cup. He has been extremely vocal about the same and hence, one of the fans expressed his desire to see Sehwag as a politician in the coming times.

However, the 44-year-old absolutely rejected the idea and took a dig at his former opening partner Gautam Gambhir saying that he has no ambition to become a part-time Member of Parliament (MP). Notably, other than serving East Delhi as its MP, Gambhir is also the global mentor of Lucknow Super Giants and along with being a member of Star Sports’ commentary panel as well.

Sehwag meanwhile has clarified that he loves cricket and wants to stay in this profession in the coming days. He added that two major parties have contacted him in the past but he has rejected both of them as he believes that a sportsperson shouldn’t enter politics.

“I am not at all interested in politics. Have been approached by both major parties in the last two elections. My view is that most entertainers or sportsman should not enter politics as most are their for their own ego and hunger for power and barely spare genuine time for people, few are exceptions but generally most only do PR. I love being involved with cricket and commentating and being a part time MP whenever convenient is not something I ever aspire for,” Sehwag tweeted.

Holland and Myanmar have changed the name of their nation in past

Meanwhile, Sehwag has also stated that the Netherlands played 1996 World Cup under the name Holland and Burma too changed its name to Myanmar. Hence, the cricketer requested the Indian board to take a call soon and change its name before the ODI World Cup, which is slated to begin on October 5. However, the entire process, if any, will take quite some time to finalise, as the Lok Sabha and Rajya members will have to pass the bill before anything gets finalised.
