India are set to cross swords with South Africa in the Super 12 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. While both sides will be looking to make their case for the semi-final spot stronger, another side in the group, team Pakistan are directly dependent on the result of the fixture for their progress.
Rohit Sharma and Co. have won two of their two fixtures standing first on the table in Group 2 with four points following the successive wins against Pakistan and the Netherlands. South Africa on the other hand endured a blow against Zimbabwe as the two shared a point each due to rain coming into play but battered Bangladesh in the following match, thus, earning three points off the two games.
Pakistan dependent on India-South Africa result
While India have nearly cemented their berth in the semi-finals of the marquee tournament, their arch-rivals, Pakistan are just one step away from an exit from the group stage. Pakistan endured twin losses against India and Zimbabwe in the final ball and are yet to register a victory in the showpiece event.
The scenario for Babar Azam’s side is such that they will need to win all their remaining fixtures, against the Netherlands, South Africa and Bangladesh and hope that India beat South Africa and Bangladesh in their respective fixtures. Even for worse, their net run rate stands with a negative 0.050, therefore, the side will look to obtain a massive win from either of the three sides they take on.
At the moment, if South Africa do happen to defeat India in their much-anticipated clash, Pakistan will be heading back home making their exit from the T20 World Cup Down Under. In this sense, many fans all over the world and mostly Pakistan fans have shared their reactions on the dependency on its rival yet neighbouring nation, team India, for a win for their progress further in the tournament.
Here is how Twitter reacted to Pakistan wanting their rivals India to win clash against South Africa:
Whenever Pakistan relies on other teams for qualification scenarios, those teams become even more Pakistan than Pakistan.
