India cricketer and Karnataka captain Mayank Agarwal has taken a proactive step to safeguard his health during air travel. After a harrowing incident last month, where he fell seriously ill after consuming water from a pouch on a flight, Agarwal decided to carry his own water bottle now as a precaution.

The episode unfolded when Agarwal was on an Indigo flight departing from Tripura to Delhi. Just moments before takeoff, he accidentally ingested a harmful substance, mistaking it for water. The immediate discomfort and burning sensation prompted an urgent response, and Agarwal was rushed to a local hospital in Agartala for medical attention. Symptoms included stomach pain, mouth ulcers, and swelling, indicating the ingestion of a potentially hazardous substance.

In the aftermath of this health scare, Agarwal lodged a police complaint through his manager, seeking clarity on how such a dangerous substance ended up in his possession. The incident not only raised concerns about Agarwal’s well-being but also highlighted the safety protocols.

Meanwhile, Agarwal was ruled out of the next Ranji Trophy game against Railways in Surat but returned in their match against Tamil Nadu. He also featured in their last league game against Chandigarh.

On the other hand, after finishing his Ranji Trophy commitments, Agarwal is expected to join Sunrisers Hyderabad soon to begin his preparations for the upcoming IPL 2024. The 2016 champions spent INR 8.25 crore on him in the auction but the opener is yet to justify his spot in the playing XI. There were reports of him leaving the franchise in 2024 but the team management has shown faith in him. The upcoming IPL season holds massive value as it can potentially make or break his T20 career.
