Former India head coach Rahul Dravid credited the senior players for success in the T20 World Cup 2024 and playing a good brand of cricket. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma led by example in the World Cup while star batter Virat Kohli came good on the night of the finals against South Africa to help India win by seven runs. Jasprit Bumrah also had a stunning campaign and was India’s biggest match-winner with the ball.

Dravid opened up on the success and lauded the senior players for contributing to the success. He also hailed Rohit for being an exceptional leader. Under his captaincy, the Men in Blue qualified for the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup in 2022, the final of the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup. The 51-year-old added that the other cricketers gravitated towards him, which made a difference.

“I think I can't completely take the credit for that. I believe the team is driven by the senior players, led by the captains. It was a privilege to work with Rohit. In these two and a half years, I think he was a fantastic leader. People really gravitated towards him and I think that makes a big difference,” Dravid said in a video released by Star Sports.

I think these superstars are humble about their preparation, work ethic: Dravid

When was asked about his management skills and how he was able to cope with positive and negative egos in the dressing room, Dravid stated that the superstars in the Indian team are actually humble, which is why the team found success. He cited the example of R Ashwin and added that even at 37 years, the veteran is eager to learn and get better.

“Just because a lot of Indian cricketers are superstars, people sometimes think they have big egos and they are difficult to manage. But I think it is the opposite. I think these superstars are humble about their preparation, work ethic and that's why they are superstars. I mean you're seeing it in Ashwin today. Even in this age, he is willing to adapt, he is willing to learn. This is just one example,” Dravid said.
