Gautam Gambhir was over the moon after Mohammed Shami dismissed Steve Smith in the first innings of the semi-final clash in the 2025 Champions Trophy between India and Australia on Tuesday, March 4, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai.
Smith and Alex Carey formed an excellent partnership of 54 runs for the fifth wicket in a short time. They were threatening to take the game away from India, but Shami managed to break the partnership with a low full toss in the 37th over. Smith's knock ended after he scored 73 off 96 balls, hitting four fours and a solitary six.
Australia had scored 198 runs at that stage on a tricky surface, and India's head coach, Gambhir, knew the importance of the wicket. The former India cricketer was caught on camera hurling abuses while celebrating the wicket. The video went viral on social media in no time.

Virat Kohli surpasses Sachin Tendulkar to become the player with most 50+ scores in ICC ODI events
Chasing a target of 265, India lost the wickets of openers Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma inside the first powerplay. The latter had two reprieves as Cooper Connolly and Marnus Labuschagne dropped a catch apiece. However, the Mumbai batter couldn't make Australia pay for the dropped chances.
Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer steadied the ship with a 91-run partnership off 111 balls for the third wicket. This was before Iyer was dismissed for 45 off 62 balls by Adam Zampa. Kohli notched up his 24th half-century in ICC ODI events. He got to the landmark with a boundary off Zampa in the 25th over. The Delhi batter surpassed the legendary Sachin Tendulkar's record of scoring the most fifties in ICC ODI events. The 36-year-old will have a key role to play as India looks to reach the finals of an ICC event for the fourth time in a row.
