India reached the finals of the Champions Trophy 2025 after registering a comprehensive win against Australia at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on Tuesday, March 4.
Opting to bat first, Australia lost the wicket of Cooper Connolly early. However, Travis Head played a brisk knock of 39 to peg India back. After the southpaw was dismissed, Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne combined well to forge a 56-run stand from 85 balls for the third wicket.
Labuschagne couldn't convert his start into a substantial score, and the partnership between Josh Inglis and Smith ended just when it was starting to look ominous. Alex Carey joined Smith in the middle, and they slammed 54 runs off 58 deliveries.
Smith was dismissed by Mohammed Shami against the run of play as the right-handed batter missed a low full-toss. He scored 73 off 96 balls. Carey went on to slam 61 off 57 deliveries while wickets kept falling from the other end. Eventually, Australia were bowled out for 264 in 49.3 overs. Mohammed Shami picked up a three-for for India.
In reply, India lost the wickets of Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma inside the powerplay. The latter was dropped twice, but he failed to make Australia pay for their lapses. However, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer held the fort as they stitched a 91-run partnership off 111 balls. Iyer was dismissed for 45 right after Kohli brought up his half-century.
Axar Patel batted at No. 5 once again and contributed with an important knock of 27. After his dismissal, KL Rahul joined Kohli and took India towards the target. The Indian wicketkeeper played some aggressive strokes, while Kohli anchored the innings. The latter was eventually dismissed for 84 off 98 balls, with India needing another 40 runs to win in 7.2 overs.

Hardik Pandya came out to the middle, and he seemed to be in a real hurry to finish proceedings. The all-rounder hit one four and three sixes to take India to the brink of a win. However, he departed for a 24-ball 28, while attempting to hit a maximum to finish the match. Rahul completed the formalities with a huge six off Maxwell as India won by four wickets with 11 balls to spare.
