The fierce arch-rivals India (IND) and Pakistan (PAK) collided in the high-octane thriller in Match 5 of the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025. Notably, both teams met at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, on Sunday, February 23, in Dubai.

After winning the toss, skipper of Green Shirts. Mohammad Rizwan decided to bat first. After starting a bit cautiously, the Men in Blue handed the neighbouring nation two early jolts in the form of their openers Babar Azama and Imam ul-Haq. However, after that, Rizwan got along with Saud Shakeel to steady the ship with their vital 104-run stand for the third wicket. While the former scored a fifty (62), Shakeel missed out on scoring a half-century (46) by just four runs. Thereafter, Pakistan lost the momentum completely and lost a few wickets in quick succession.

However, spin all rounder Khushdil Shah provided the final push with his quickfire 38-run knock in the last stages of Pakistan's innings. As a result, the co-hosts of the Champions Trophy managed to post somewhat a modest total of 241 runs on the board. Speaking of India's bowling performance, Kuldeep Yadav claimed three wickets while all rounder Hardik Pandya picked up two wickets. While Harshit, Axar and Jadeja shared a wicket between them in what was a collective bowling effort.

In reply to the run chase, India started well until the fourth over. Captain Rohit Sharma was looking in great touch as pulled a Haris Rauf bouncer for a sumptuous six, in what was the highlight of his short stay at the crease. Pacer Shaheen Afridi struck with a lethal inswinging yorker to clean up the hitman. However, opener Shubman Gill played a good hand with his 46-run knock and stitched a 69-run stand for the second wicket.

However, the man of the moment Virat Kohli, showed his class yet again by anchoring the run chase to perfection. He found back his batting mojo and carried on his run chase masterclass while Shreyas Iyer from the other end, after milking runs for some time as per the demand of the situation, tried to pace the innings with some shots in the middle stages. But soon after completing his fifty (56 runs off 67 balls), the batter perished, courtesy of a stunning catch by Imam-ul-Haq.off Khushdil Shah's ball. The duo put up a 114-run partnership to take the match deep and under the control of Team India.

Although Shaheen Afridi struck again by dismissing Hardik Pandya, it was too late to make a comeback into the match. Eventually, Virat Kohli scored a magnanimous unbeaten century (100* off 111 balls) to guide India to a dominating win over Pakistan by six wickets. As a result, the Men in Blue clinched their second win of the Champions Trophy 2025 edition.
