Star Indian batter had a forgettable season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023; playing just nine games in the tournament, Rahul sustained an injury in his right thigh, which rendered him out of contention for the entirety of the competition and for the upcoming World Test Championship final as well.
Currently enjoying a vacation in London with his wife, Athiya Shetty, Rahul once again captured every headline after he was reportedly captured visiting a strip club with his wife. However, Athiya was quick to debunk the rumours as she took to Instagram and posted a message.
In her Instagram story, Athiya Shetty wrote, "I usually choose to be silent and not react, but sometimes it’s important to stand up for yourself. Rahul, I and out friends went out to a regular place, as one does. Stop taking things out of context and check your facts before reporting. Peace and Love."
KL Rahul had a season to forget in the IPL 2023
Before the injury hindered KL Rahul’s plan for the IPL 2023, the 31-year-old was going through a run of poor form. Having scored 274 runs in nine IPL games, Rahul was unable to make an impact for Lucknow in the league stages. After sustaining the injury, Indian all-rounder Krunal Pandya was chosen to lead Lucknow for the rest of the tournament.
The side did fare well under Pandya’s leadership, making it to the Eliminator of the tournament. They took on the five-time champions Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator of the IPL 2023; however, they succumbed to a hefty loss, as Mumbai won the game by 81 runs and were eliminated from the cash-rich league.
Furthermore, KL Rahul’s thigh injury meant trouble for team India as well. Recovering well in England, Rahul will be missing the World Test Championship final that is scheduled to be played on June 7 at the Oval in London. The Indian team announced batter Ishan Kishan as Rahul’s replacement in the squad.
