Veteran wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha is set to bid farewell to his domestic career as Bengal takes on Punjab in their final group-stage match of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 at Eden Gardens on January 30. The 40-year-old has represented India in 40 Tests and played a crucial role in Bengal’s domestic campaigns in an illustrious career spanning nearly two decades.
With a tally of ovrer 7000 runs in 141 first-class matches, Saha is widely regarded as one of India's finest wicketkeepers. However, he was overshaodwed by MS Dhoni and later Rishabh Pant at the international stage. Despite this, he remains a stalwart in domestic cricket, delivering match-winning performances for Bengal and Tripura. On the eve of his final match, took to social media to express his emotions.
"One last practice session of my career before my final game of Ranji! Cherishing every moment, every shot, every memory. The journey has been incredible, and tomorrow marks a special chapter," he wrote in an Instagram post.

Bengal’s disappointing 2024-25 Ranji Trophy campaign
Saha had initially decided to retire before the start of this Ranji season, but a conversation with former India captain Sourav Ganguly and his wife, Romi, led him to change his mind. He was convinced to end his career where it all began, at Bengal and Eden Gardens.
Even though he had moved to Tripura for two seasons due to a fallout with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), the call to return for a farewell season was too emotional to decline.
Meanwhile, Bengal’s 2024-25 Ranji Trophy campaign has been disappointing, with only one win and three draws from six matches, placing them in fourth place and already out of contention for the knockout round. While this may not be the ideal setting for a farewell match, the team will look to give their senior-most player a winning farewell.
