‘Continue the good work’ – Sachin Tendulkar extols Akash Madhwal for latter’s jaw-dropping spell against LSG
Madhwal became the first bowler in the history of the IPL to record a five-wicket haul in the playoffs.
Legendary Indian cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar, was highly impressed with the Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer, Akash Madhwal, for his stunning bowling figures which resulted in the franchise’s win against LSG in the Eliminator on Wednesday, May 24.
Madhwal ripped through the top and middle order and recorded a five-wicket haul for just five runs in his 3.3 overs against Lucknow in the crucial match. In doing so, Mumbai outrightly annihilated the Krunal Pandya-led side and won the high-voltage clash by 81 runs to cruise to Qualifier Two.
Impressed with Madhwal’s splendid bowling figures, India and MI great, Sachin advised the pacer to keep grinding in MI’s euphoric dressing room celebrations. Sachin also lavished praise on the performances displayed by Cameron Green (41 off 23 balls) and Suryakumar Yadav (33 off 20 balls), which helped MI attain a competitive total.
“Greeny (Cameron Green) and Surya's (Suryakumar Yadav) partnership set the platform for us. 182 on this big ground, was a good total. The wicket played differently compared to the last game, but when we went out to field, it was as if we were defending 145. That kind of fielding standards were set. It was incredible,” Tendulkar said in the dressing room speech.
“I thought that was one of the reasons Badoni played that shot (in the 10th over against Madhwal), and to me, that was the turning point of the game. Yes, Krunal's wicket was important, but those two wickets in the over, you forced him to play that shot. Few dot shots and he went across the line. To me, that was the turning point. Everyone chipped in. (turning towards Akash Madhwal) Incredible, Madhwal, continue the good work,” he added.
