The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023 witnessed a weird incident involving West Indies batter Johnson Charles. In a rather comical moment, Charles managed to almost knock his own stumps off with his helmet.

The bizarre incident unfolded as Charles attempted to scoop the ball above his head, but instead, he ended up hitting his chin and his helmet flew off and was on the verge of disturbing the stumps. Responding swiftly, Charles used his foot to change the helmet's path, saving himself from a bizarre dismissal.

The incident occurred during a CPL match between St. Lucia Kings and Trinbago Knight Riders. Charles, playing for the St. Lucia Kings, narrowly escaped a potential injury after the ball found his chin, rather than going over the keeper's head.

Although an injury scare was evaded, Charles was very much close to becoming the victim of a hit-wicket dismissal, with his falling helmet hitting the stumps. This moment took place in the 12th over of the innings when Dwayne Bravo bowled a full toss and Charles tried to scoop the ball over the keeper. After a brief medical assessment, Charles was all set to resume his innings.

In the end, Charles showcased resilience, continuing to score 37 runs off 31 balls. His contribution helped St. Lucia Kings to set a target of 167 runs for Trinbago Knight Riders. However, the Knight Riders faltered in their chase, crumbling for just 113 runs within 15 overs.

St. Lucia skipper Faf du Plessis expressed his contentment with the outcome. "Happy with the result. Obviously sad I'm leaving. We felt we should've got more in the first innings. We were just saying to hold the nerve," he said after the game.
