CSK share pic of MS Dhoni tearing up after his sudden Test retirement 9 years ago
“The selfie that tells the story,” Chennai Super Kings captioned the post.
December 30, 2014 was the day when former Indian skipper MS Dhoni retired from the longest format. Pulling the curtains on his Test career, the decision came out of the blue when India took on Australia in their home soil.
Nine years to that day, IPL (Indian Premier League) franchise Chennai Super Kings took to social media to share a throwback photo of MS Dhoni alongside Suresh Raina on the day of his Test retirement. In the picture, Dhoni can be seen tearing up. “The selfie that tells the story,” Chennai Super Kings captioned the post.
Dhoni scored an unbeaten 24 runs in the second innings of the last Test match of his career as the match ended in a draw. Chasing a target of 384 runs, India finished the game with a score of 174 for six in 66 overs.
Dhoni revealed crying after the 2019 World Cup as well
His Test retirement was not the only time when MS Dhoni was caught tearing up, the same was the case when India crashed out of the ODI World Cup 2019 after losing to New Zealand in the semi-final of the tournament. As per batting coach Sanjay Bangar, Dhoni cried like a little kid after India lost the clash against New Zealand.
“It was a heartbreaking moment for all the players as India were playing excellent cricket. We won seven matches in the league phase and to bow out like that was not good,” Bangar was quoted as saying by Wion.
“Players cried like kids. MS Dhoni was crying like children. Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant had tears in their eyes. Such stories remain in the dressing room,” he added.
