'Current favourite? Dekho bowler toh aasaan hai' - MS Dhoni picks Jasprit Bumrah as his current favourite bowler

At a recent event, Dhoni was seated on a podium alongside two representatives from the organizing committee. There was a lively exchange between Dhoni and the audience, which included a considerable number of journalists. One of the attendees inquired about his current favourite bowler and batter. The former World Champion Indian skipper responded without hesitation, selecting Bumrah as his preferred bowler. However, he provided a more nuanced explanation for his choice of batter.

"Current favourite? Dekho bowler toh aasaan hai, Bumrah is there (look, picking a bowler would be easy since we have Bumrah)," said Dhoni during the event.

Regarding his favourite batter, Dhoni noted the challenge of selecting a specific individual due to the abundance of exceptionally skilled and talented players currently active. He clarified that this did not suggest a deficiency among the remaining bowlers, but rather highlighted the difficulty in pinpointing one standout performer amid the ever-evolving opinions as different batters took the crease.

Notably, MS Dhoni expressed that as long as the Indian team continued to accumulate runs and perform well, he would be more than content with not having to single out a particular batter. However, it was Bumrah as his current favourite bowler regardless.

"Batsman mein thoda mushkil hojaata hai kyuki itne achhe-achhe batsmen hai na humaare paas, iska yeh matlab nahi ki bowler kharaab hai. Just bol raha hu ki pick karna mushkil hojaata hai. Jisko batting karte waqt dekho na toh lagta hai yahi hai bhai, iss hi ko dekhna hai. But then somebody else comes, voh bhi utna hi achha lagta hai (it’s difficult to pick a batter because we have several good batters, but that doesn’t mean bowlers aren’t good. It’s difficult to pick one among batters as whomever I see batting, he looks the best but then I see someone else, he looks great to the eye as well)," the Almora-born further continued.

"Toh jabtak Team India achhi karti rahegi, I don't want to pick a batsman. Hopefully, they'll keep scoring runs, but bowler maine ek pick karliya hai (as long as Team India are doing fine, I don’t want to pick a batter and fingers crossed, they'll keep amassing scores. However, I have picked my favourite bowler [Bumrah])," added Dhoni, post which one of the hosts called for the next question to be asked by the enthusiastic crowd.     

Bumrah has consistently proven to be a bowler of choice for every captain he has served with in the Indian team. Under Dhoni's stewardship alone, he featured in a total of 21 T20Is and 8 ODIs, demonstrating his pivotal role across the white-ball formats.
