Sri Lankan captain Kusal Mendis inflicted a clever runout during Match 25 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against England on Thursday, October 26 at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. The wicketkeeper batter used his presence of mind to run out Adil Rashid at the non-striker’s end after collecting a wide ball.
The dismissal reminded fans of Virender Sehwag’s similar run out against Sri Lanka during an ODI in Vizag in 2007. During the game, seeing Sehwag run nonchalantly, Sangakkara hit the stumps at the non striker’s end to dismiss the Indian opener for 46. However, Sehwag’s dismissal didn’t hurt India much as they easily chased down the target of 260 with ease and won the match by seven wickets.
