The premier T20 fest Big Bash League (BBL 2024-25) is undergoing in full swing. On Friday, Perth Scorchers crossed swords with Sydney Thunder in the 22nd match of the tournament. While batting first, Scorchers made a solid start and a combined batting effort from the top order piloted the side to a decent total of 177. Among notable performers, Finn Allen's half-century (68 off 31) and Cooper Connolly who (43 off 31) remained unbeaten, were the stars of the day.

However, on the other hand, Thunder bowlers had a dismal day as they were struggling to contain the batters during the first innings. Two key injuries further added to their woes in the form of a horrific accident in the first innings which included players Daniel Sams and Cameron Bancroft who collided with each other while trying to catch a ball that was flicked in the air by Cooper Connolly. While Sams was charging in from deep mid-wicket, Bancroft was also running back from the square leg region while trying to take the catch.

The scenes were ugly at the Optus Stadium as Cameron Bancroft ended up with a bloody nose and Daniel Sams's situation was serious as he was taken off the field on a stretcher due to the impact of the collision with Bancroft. Notably, there was a lack of communication between the two players which cost the team a player and a valuable wicket of Connolly who was on eight runs at that time.
