David Miller, South Africa’s flamboyant left-handed batter, has said that he loves to watch Babar Azam’s delightful cover drives.

The South African batter known for his aggressive brand of cricket in the white-ball format said this during the ongoing edition of the Pakistan Super League, currently underway in the cities of Karachi, Multan, Lahore and Rawalpindi.

Asked if he had to pick up his most favourite cover drive between the bats of India’s star batter Virat Kohli and Pakistan’s sizzling talent Babar Azam, the South African white ball specialist favoured Azam’s stroke.

Virat’s cover drive or Babar’s cover drive?

“Probably, Babar. I love his cover drives,” Miller responded with a smile on his face. In a programme hosted by ESPNcricinfo Miller was asked many rapid fire questions, including the one on the cover drives by Virat Kohli and Babar Azam.

Some questions in the quiz were regarding Miller’s fascination for either Hardik Pandya’s helicopter shot or Rashid Khan’s snake shot, and Hardik Pandya’s beach pod or Faf du Plessis’ beach bod, among others.

Fans Remain Divided

Since Babar Azam’s ascendancy to global fame as a reliable batter across formats, many debates revolve around comparisons between the two classy batters. In the last couple of years Babar Azam has won major International Cricket Council awards, prompting his fans across the globe to place him above Virat Kohli.

While Virat Kohli’s fan club argues that the Indian batter remains a sporting icon at the international stage for his longevity and record number of centuries in ODIs and Tests, those who love Babar Azam refer to the batter’s supreme form in the last four years and Virat Kohli’s failure to score a century in the red-ball format since November 2019.

Fans continue to remain divided whether Babar Azam deserves to be included in the so-called Fab Four.

Babar Azam- A Run Machine

The 28-year-old cricketer from Pakistan, Babar has 28 international centuries against his name, including 17 in the ODIs, nine in Tests, and two in the shortest format of the game as well. Babar Azam averages almost 60 in the ODIs, 48.63 in Tests, and 41.41 in the T20Is.

The batter is renowned for his trademark cover drive. Recently, Babar Azam won two big ICC awards. He was adjudged ODI cricketer of the year and Men’s cricketer of 2022.
