From an explosive T20 batter to a resilient Test player, David Warner's journey exemplifies adaptability and grit: Sachin Tendulkar

Star Australia batter David Warner retired from Test cricket after the final match of the three-match series against Pakistan. The southpaw represented Australia in 112 Tests, scoring 8786 at an average of 44.59 and 26 centutries, which cemented his legacy as one of the greatest Test openers of all time. He made 57 in his final appearance before walking off to a standing ovation from the Sydney crowd.

When he first burst into the scene, there were a lot of doubts regarding his calibre in the longest format, as many considered him an ideal white-ball cricketer. Warner, however, defied all the odds and turned out to be a match-winner in red-ball cricket, which also impressed the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. The former cricketer also lauded Warner for having an extraordinary career and appreciated his transition and evolution in the game.

Knew you would excel most in Test cricket: Virender Sehwag

David Warner and Virender Sehwag shared the dressing room during their time at Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals). In one of the conversations, the Indian opener pushed Warner to try his luck in the longest format as Sehwag revealed that he was certain to see the Sydney-born cricketer succeed in Test cricket. After his final match, the 45-year-old congratulated Warner and wished him well for his next phase.

“Congratulations @davidwarner31on a wonderful Test career. Since the time I saw you, knew this is the format you will excel most in and what a ride it has been. Full on entertainment on the pitch and now hopefully more in reels and T20 cricket. Best wishes for the next phase,” Sehwag tweeted.
