DC vs KKR: Ishant Sharma picks first wicket for DC after 718 days in IPL 2023
Ishant Sharma last played in the IPL in the 2021 season.
Veteran Delhi Capitals (DC) pacer Ishant Sharma claimed his first wicket following his return to action after 718 days in the ongoing IPL 2023 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The two franchises locked horns in match 28 of the league at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
David Warner, skipper of the home side, won the toss and elected to field first. KKR endured a dismal start to their innings as the side could only manage to get 35 runs during the powerplay (1-6 overs) for the loss of three wickets.
In the midst of the innings, seasoned pacer Ishant Sharma struck the vital blow of rival skipper Nitish Rana for mere four runs off seven balls. Nitish holed out to mid-on, which was comfortably pouched by Mukesh Kumar.
In doing so, Ishant claimed his maiden wicket of the season and also his first after returning to action after 718 days. For the unversed, the pacer last played in the 2021 season and featured in three games, claiming just one wicket.
DC roped in Ishant Sharma for INR 50 Lakh
Prior to the match against KKR, Ishant picked 73 wickets in 93 matches in the IPL and played a full-fledged season in 2019 for Capitals. The 34-year-old got 13 wickets in 13 matches for the Delhi-based franchise in 2019.
Banking on his experience, DC brought the veteran pacer on board for INR 50 Lakh during the auction for the 2023 season. Ishant would therefore look to ply his trade for the franchise by putting his best foot forward and deliver the goods in the crunch moments of the game.
Speaking about DC’s campaign, David Warner and Co. have lost all five of their outings thus far in the lucrative T20 competition. The franchise will look to earn their first points in the league against KKR at home and build on that to keep their hopes alive for a spot in the top four.
