Deepak Chahar made his debut for Mumbai Indians on Sunday, March 23, and that too against his old side Chennai Super Kings.
Star pacer Deepak Chahar made his debut for Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday, March 23, and that too against his old side Chennai Super Kings (CSK), at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium, in Chennai. The Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) witnessed its first 'El-Clasico' as the Men in Yellow prevailed by four wickets in the battle of two five-time champions.
Chahar, however, put on an impressive show, displaying all-round skills against his former side. He walked out to bat when Mumbai lost their seventh wicket for 118 runs off the first ball of the 17th over. The seam-bowling all-rounder hit two fours and as many sixes, helping Mumbai finish on a fighting total of 155/9 in 20 overs. With the ball, the 32-year-old picked up the wicket of Rahul Tripathi in his second over. Chahar finished with figures of 1/18 in two overs.
Deepak Chahar's sister Malti expressed her happiness after his exemplary performance by sharing a hilarious meme on her social media. Malti trolled her brother for playing against his old side and compared this situation to the famous Telugu movie "Baahubali", where the main protagonist gets stabbed by his own uncle, Kattappa.

Talking about the match, Khaleel Ahmed and Ravichandran Ashwin took three wickets inside the powerplay for Chennai before Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma resurrected the innings. However, Noor Ahmad bagged a four-for through the middle overs to derail the MI innings.
Chasing the 156-run target, Chennai lost the wicket of Tripathi early but Ruturaj Gaikwad played a blistering knock at No. 3. He amassed 53 off 26 balls to bring the asking rate down considerably. CSK's middle-order batters threw their wickets away but opener Rachin Ravindra held the fort. The southpaw remained unbeaten on 65* off 45 balls to take the hosts to victory with five balls to spare.
CSK will square off against Royal Challengers Bengaluru up next at home on Friday, March 28. Meanwhile, Mumbai will go up against Gujarat Titans on Saturday, March 29, in Ahmedabad.
