The inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 has lived up to its billing so far. The tournament has already had many memorable moments, from Harmanpreet Kaur’s explosive innings in the season opener to Royal Challengers Bangalore suffering a batting collapse in both their games so far.
But what got every cricket fan around the world talking was Grace Harris' knock against Gujarat Giants from UP Warriorz's campaign opener. The Australian all-rounder was at her best and led the team to a thrilling victory in the game. After the knock, Harsha Bhogle asked her the secret behind her power during the post-match presentation.
Harris had a cheeky reply to Bhogle's question as she had said:
"Don't know where I'll find some burgers in India. Maybe some butter chicken."
Harris was benched for UP Warriorz's second game against Delhi Capitals on Tuesday, March 7. Though the decision came as a shocker for fans scross the globe, Bhogle's gesture towards Harris during the game grabbed eyeballs. The Indian commentator gifted a chicken burger to Harris when she was sitting with the rest of the team members in the dugout.
Harris rested for clash against Delhi Capitals
In a shocking development, Grace Harris, who was the star of UP Warriorz’ previous game against Gujarat Giants, was rested for their clash against Delhi Capitals. She scored an unbeaten 59 off just 29 balls as they successfully chased the target on the penultimate delivery.
Shabnim Ismail was picked in place of Harris as the fourth overseas player in the XI, and skipper Alyssa Healy also came forward to explain the decision of dropping Harris.
"We are going to have a bowl. Little bit of green, which is rare in India. We have made a large call, Grace Harris sits out and Ismail comes in. We have made an impact call and hopefully Ismail does that tonight," Healy said after winning the toss.
"We have some talented local Indian players, and that is a benefit. The belief within the group is there, and it will be tested tonight against a good Delhi side," she added.
Delhi Capitals came into the match as they meanto continue the winning momentum. The side continued their run of exceptional performances as they managed to notch up a massive 211 runs on the scoreboard, and later defended it to win the game by 42 runs.
