In a scintillating display of seam and swing bowling, Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj engraved his name in cricketing history during the Asia Cup 2023 final. With an exceptional performance that left fans awestruck, Siraj orchestrated a mesmerizing spell, dismantling Sri Lanka's batting lineup with finesse. His remarkable figures of 6 for 21 played a pivotal role in India's resounding 10-wicket victory, securing an Asia Cup title after five years.

The magnitude of India's triumph was exemplified not only by their comprehensive win but also by the fact that they achieved it with a staggering 263 balls to spare, marking their biggest victory in ODIs in terms of balls remaining. Social media platforms erupted with praises for the 29-year-old's bowling prowess, and even the Delhi Police's social media team couldn't resist joining the chorus of admiration. In a heartwarming tweet, they expressed their appreciation. "No speed challans for Siraj today," Delhi Police posted on their 'X' account.

Siraj show altogether, on and off the field

The Hyderabad pacer's sensational effort saw Sri Lanka, the defending champions, bundled out for a paltry 50 runs. The maestro of swing and seam, Siraj surpassed his own ODI best of 4/32 with ease. He swiftly dispatched Pathum Nissanka for a mere two runs and then struck on successive deliveries, accounting for Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka, narrowly missing out on a hat-trick. Siraj's fifth wicket came in the form of Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka, equalling an ODI record for the fastest five-wicket haul, achieved within his first 16 balls of the match.

Beyond his remarkable performance on the field, the right-arm pacer displayed immense generosity and sportsmanship by dedicating his $5,000 'Player of the Match' cash prize to the groundsmen of the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. This heartfelt gesture acknowledged the groundsmen's exceptional dedication in maintaining the pitch's readiness, despite persistent rain interruptions throughout the tournament.
