The debate regarding who will be India’s first-choice wicketkeeper-batter during the ODI World Cup 2023 is all around with Rishabh Pant injured following his horrific car crash on December 30, 2022. There are three players in contention namely KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson. Rahul is currently undergoing rehabilitation after sustaining a thigh injury during IPL 2023 while Samson and Kishan are giving their all to seal the coveted spot.

Continuing the debate on social media, a fan asked "Who should be the wicket-keeper?” and got a rather interesting reply from India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik. The India cricketer stated that he was unsure about others but he would certainly be present during the World Cup.

Replying to a fan query on social media site ‘X’, Karthik wrote, “You'll see me in the World Cup, for sure, is what I can say.”

In his reply, Karthik was referring to his commentary stint during the cricketing extravaganza scheduled to be played in India from October 05. The India cricketer has turned into a broadcaster and is often seen expressing his views on air while he’s not playing the game.

Notably, he was a part of India’s squad in the ODI World Cup 2019 where he played three matches including the semi-final against New Zealand. The 38-year-old couldn’t leave his impact with the bat having scored just 14 runs in two innings.

Karthik was a part of 2007 World Cup squad in West Indies

Karthik was also selected for the 2007 ODI World Cup in West Indies, however, he couldn’t find a place in the Playing XI with MS Dhoni donning the wicketkeeping gloves. The Tamil Nadu-born cricketer last played for India during the T20 World Cup 2022 game against Bangladesh in Adelaide. He was last seen playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore during IPL 2023.

Much before his retirement, Karthik has found his second passion and would cherish every bit of it as he gets to work on the mega event in two months' time.
