Varun Chakravarthy looked to be in remarkable form in India's first T20I against England at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. His double-wicket over came as a severe hindrance to England's rhythym. Chakravarthy's third wicket of the evening was that of the in-form and dangerous-looking Jos Buttler. Ending with figures of 3/23, he was eventually declared the Player of the Match for his outstanding outing.

Former cricketer-turned-commentator, Dinesh Karthik, reposted an earlier tweet on his feed after the first innings of yesterday's game. The tweet he had made last year in November was essentially about Chakravarthy deserving a Champions Trophy call-up later on. Karthik's caption in yesterday's retweet suggested that the Board of Control for Cricket in India should have accomodated him in the 15-member roster for the marquee 50-over tournament.

Check the post below:

Chakravarthy's three-wicket haul in addition to every other bowler excluding Hardik Pandya playing their part helped India curb the visitors to a paltry 132 on a decent batting deck in Kolkata. The run-chase was off to a flyer with Abhishek Sharma smashing an explosive 79-run knock off just 34 deliveries. India eventually ended up registering the win by seven wickets and 43 deliveries to spare. Their next game is scheduled to take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on January 25.

Interestingly, Karthik's tweet last year came in the midst of a 12-wicket tour for the mystery spinner in South Africa. An 18-wicket campain in the recentlly-concluded edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy ignited speculations on whether Chakravarthy could be in with a chance to be included in the squad for the Champions Trophy. However, it was not to be for the Bidar-born cricketer. Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar were the four spinners shortlisted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
